Virginia CDL FAQ

What is the minimum age for a Virginia CDL?

18 for intrastate driving and 21 for interstate or hazmat. Drivers under 21 may get a CDL with a u0027Ku0027 restriction limiting them to intrastate driving.

How long must I hold a Virginia CLP before the skills test?

At least 14 days, in line with federal law.

How much does a Virginia CDL cost?

$3 for the CLP and $64 for an 8-year CDL. Endorsements add about $1 per year.

Does Virginia require ELDT?

Yes. The Virginia DMV requires Entry-Level Driver Training from a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry for first-time CDL applicants and first-time H, P, or S endorsements.
