How to Get a Missouri CDL

Getting a Missouri CDL takes several steps. You will need a regular driver license first, a DOT medical exam, federal Entry-Level Driver Training, and you must pass both knowledge and skills tests. Plan for the process to take several weeks.

1. Hold a valid Missouri Class F (noncommercial) driver license.
2. Complete a DOT medical exam and submit your Medical Examineru0027s Certificate to the Department of Revenue.
3. Complete federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) with a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
4. Study the Missouri CDL Manual.
5. Visit a Missouri license office, pay the fees, and pass the required knowledge tests to get your Commercial Learneru0027s Permit (CLP).
6. Hold the CLP for at least 14 days before taking the skills test.
7. Practice driving with a qualified CDL holder seated next to you.
8. Schedule and pass the three-part skills test at a Missouri State Highway Patrol Driver Examination station.
9. Pay the CDL fee and receive your Missouri Commercial Driver License.
