How to Get a Ohio CDL

Getting an Ohio CDL takes a few steps. You first study the Ohio CDL Manual, pass written tests for a Commercial Learner's Permit, complete federal Entry-Level Driver Training, and then pass a three-part skills test. Plan for at least two trips: one to a driver exam station for tests and one to a deputy registrar to receive the license.

1. Read the Ohio Commercial Driver License Manual (HSY 7605) from the Ohio BMV website.
