How to Get a Nevada CDL

Getting a Nevada CDL takes several steps. You will need a regular driver license first, a DOT medical exam, federal Entry-Level Driver Training, and you must pass both knowledge and skills tests. Plan for the process to take several weeks.

1. Hold a valid Nevada noncommercial driver license.
2. Complete a DOT medical exam and submit your Medical Examineru0027s Certificate to the Nevada DMV.
3. Complete federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) with a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
4. Study the Nevada Commercial Driveru0027s License Manual.
5. Visit a Nevada DMV CDL office, pay the $57.50 CLP fee, and pass the required knowledge tests.
6. Hold the CLP for at least 14 days before taking the skills test.
7. Practice driving with a qualified CDL holder seated next to you.
8. Schedule and pass the $30 three-part skills test.
9. Pay the CDL fee and receive your Nevada Commercial Driver License.
