How to Get a Mississippi CDL

To get a Mississippi CDL, you study the DPS CDL Manual, get a DOT medical card, pass knowledge tests, hold a CLP for at least 14 days, complete ELDT, then pass the road test.

1. Download and study the Mississippi CDL Manual from driverservicebureau.dps.ms.gov.
2. Confirm you meet age rules: 18 for intrastate, 21 for interstate or hazmat.
3. Get a DOT medical exam from a Certified Medical Examiner on the FMCSA National Registry.
4. Submit your Medical Examiner Certificate to the DPS Driver Service Bureau.
5. Visit a DPS Driver Service office with identity, residency, and Social Security documents.
6. Pay the $29 CDL application fee and pass the General Knowledge test (50 questions, 1 hour, miss no more than 10).
7. Pay the $16 CLP fee to receive your Commercial Learner Permit (valid 12 months).
8. Hold the CLP for at least 14 days.
9. Complete federal Entry-Level Driver Training from an FMCSA Training Provider Registry provider.
10. Schedule and pass the CDL road test.
11. Pay the $55 CDL license fee to receive your Mississippi CDL.
